A PLACE MADE FROM RICH AGRICULTURE, FAMILY, AND PURPOSE.

Located on PFE Road, the name "PFE" is derived from the Pacific Fruit Express rail line that once delivered perishable fruits and vegetables from Placer County to remote areas throughout California.

In the aftermath of the fabled California Gold Rush, discouraged gold seekers took to farming along the rolling hills and rich creek bottom lands along PFE Road. While the crops were bountiful, it was actually the railroad that helped build California agriculture. In 1907, the Pacific Fruit Exchange began operation with a fleet of 6,000 refrigerated cars that had rooftop hatches through which ice was loaded to keep produce cool. This allowed the produce to reach broader audiences and together with the "fruit crate” marketing and labeling in the 1920's – California was seen as a source of youth, energy, and the good life.

Today, Farms at Riolo is a rejuvenation of these historic fields of fertile land, wide open space, and easy access to urban convenience. The same desire and drive that shaped this place lives even stronger today. Taking cues from the rich agricultural history and fruit crate design that helped California reinvent itself after the Gold Rush, Farms at Riolo is the perfect balance of rural charm and modern living.
